The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney shared some honest, candid thoughts about Lady Gaga’s “Perfect Illusion,” but Gaga and producer Mark Ronson didn’t hear the feedback as constructive criticism. On Vice News Tonight‘s “High Standards Music Corner,” Carney confessed that the glam guitar sounds a little hokey.

“I’m lost because the guitar at the top of the song sounds so sh—- — it sounds like Hulk Hogan is playing the guitar,” he said, adding that the song has grown on him.
Ronson tweeted, “I also remember my good friend @patrickcarney sitting in my living room, hearing ‘Uptown Funk’ and telling me it wouldn’t work,” referring to his Bruno Mars mega-hit.
Gaga stood up for the guitarists on the track, chiming in, “He’s not as snarky as I would be watching him in a guitar death-match w/ Kevin Parker [from Tame Impala] and Josh F—ing Homme [from Queens of the Stone Age].”
Still entitled to an opinion, Carney doubled down on his critique and shared a clip of Rick Derringer’s “Real American” featuring one Terry “Hulk Hogan” Bollea. “Lighten up and listen up,” he added.
